You'll be best served doing these things first before seeking out your family doctor or a dermatologist.
It hardly seems fair. First a teenager or a young adult must suffer through actually having acne, having to treat it and having to live with it...sometimes for years.
Then the acne is gone but the scars are there as a daily reminder of the mental and emotional
agony the acne caused in the first place.
